Review Your Year with Tarot
A big part of life is change, and a part of change is growth. Of course, growth is preferable, yes? And if you want to grow—and learn—at your best rate, it’s a good thing to review your past.
I don’t know about you, but I have some issues with remembering every little thing, especially when it comes to events in the past year. Journaling regularly is a great help, but even then, it’s not unusual to overlook certain aspects and lessons involved in the events that make up our lives.
The Tarot can help you with this.
I have found that a simple five-card spread can lead you to some pretty good understandings of what you can glean from the year you’ve just lived. It’s not even a spread in which you assign a meaning for each card; it’s more like a free-for-all. Take a look at each of the cards and see what you can learn. For instance, in the spread pictured below, you see five cards with these meanings:
Knight of Wands, for forward motion in the area of activity, such as a goal or some kind of thing you may be learning.
XIII, Death, for some kind of big change in your life. This can involve actual death, but it usually doesn’t.
6 of Wands, which tells us of a type of victory. And do you see how smoothly this connects to the first card, the Knight of Wands, which spoke of forward motion? So perhaps these three cards together are talking about not only moving forward in some area of your life, but also of victory and a major change in your life.
2 of Pentacles, involving a decision that needed to be made involving money
3 of Swords, which speaks of some kind of heartbreak or painful incident. Being that this came at the end of the spread, this could easily be involved either at the very end of the year or even at the very beginning of the next year. It could be a warning to be watchful, or it can be advising you to be very careful regarding the decision mentioned in the 2 of Pentacles. If the decision has already been made, this card could be telling you to be aware that something challenging could be the result of the decision.
Something else you may have noticed is that the first three cards all have horses on them, which emphasizes forward motion.
So as an analysis of these five cards, I would say that you’ve made excellent progress towards your goal or goals—so much so that your life has changed greatly and you can definitely claim victory. It looks like you probably have a greater income now and decisions have had to be made because of that. However, you need to be careful about those decisions to avoid possible heartbreak or disappointment.

I’m sure you can see how this spread can involve an entire year, especially with the first card, the Knight of Wands. The forward motion it speaks of could easily be taking up a majority of your year, and the rest of the cards could easily be wrapping up your year.
